Sr Info Systems Consultant

****Ideal candidate will have seven years practical experience in telecommunications and networking systems implementation*****

The primary purpose of the Sr. Information Systems Consultant position is to be responsible for the research, design, development and implementation of the telecommunications infrastructure, networks and systems as well as participating in the on-going delivery of telecommunications infrastructure projects for UT M. D. Anderson Cancer Center (UT MDACC). Provides infrastructure networking technology solutions. Impacts the network architect and usability campus-wide.

' Provides leadership in Information Technology (IT) for the development of complex systems that are highly appropriate, tightly integrated, consistently available, secure, flexible, and fault-tolerant systems. Works with other IT managers and staff to responsively develop and enhance core telecommunications and network infrastructure to better meet identified needs.
' Provide designs, recommendations, standards and consultations for telecommunications and network-based services.
' Creates, architects, develops and installs solutions to complex technical, procedural and logistical problems.
' Designs, identifies, tests, develops and implements new system and networking technologies in conjunction with UT MDACC Information Security.
' Develops formal guidelines, processes, procedures, and policies to ensure systems and telecommunications projects are reviewed, prioritized, and implemented in a timely manner.
' Engineers systems to prevent security and system downtime incidents. Coordinates responses when incidents occur.
' Develops formal processes and procedures to ensure that systems are designed and implemented effectively.
' Prepares Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery plans.
' Provides regular reports regarding the current and long-term states of UT MDACC telecommunications infrastructure, networks, systems and projects.
' Evaluates existing systems hardware, software and monitoring tools and develops recommendations to modify existing solutions, or replace with newer, more appropriate hardware or software.
' Modifies system software and creates configurations including gateway additions, enterprise survivable server definitions, local survivable processor setup, firmware downloads, dial plan administration, vector development, agent logins, trunk additions and changes, announcement management, uniform dial plan networking, automatic route selection and automatic alternate routing, QSIG parameters, peripheral equipment supporting contact center statistics and Computer/Telephony Integration (CTI), and all VoIP equipment and software, including TCP/IP network components, telephony requirements for the Ethernet network, and DHCP. Monitors systems and network operation, corrects failures, monitors performance, analyzes performance data, recommends actions to correct anomalous behavior to the Manager, Telecommunications Engineering and/or the Director, Telecommunications Services.
' Provides effective communication with other Information Services departments about the operational status of infrastructure projects.
' Maintains skills as technology and implementations evolve, reviews literature including trade press, contacts vendors to obtain detailed information and/or presentations, reviews experiences of users with similar or related applications.
' Monitors the development of new standards with TCP/IP and other networking technologies with particular attention to the impact on the UT MDACC telecommunications and networking environment.
' Serves as a representative of UT MDACC, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and careful judgment in all interactions with other members of the UT MDACC community and with the public.
' Directs the activities of other team members as a part of a responsibility for completion of projects.
' The Senior Information Systems Consultant has a significant role in assuring the reliable operation of the UT MDACC campus telecommunications systems, networks and peripheral telecommunications servers and processors.


EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, or related field. Equivalent experience may be substituted for degree.

Preferred: Master's degree in Computer Science, or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

 Seven years healthcare operations and management, with two years in an Information Services department or related experience with information services projects. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

- A minimum of seven years practical experience in telecommunications and networking systems implementation and/or operation is required.
- Strong communications skills with excellent spoken and written English are required. Must be able to explain difficult abstract concepts verbally and in writing through presentations. Ability to communicate clearly with individual users and other staff on all levels ' in small groups, one on one, and in writing is required.
- Proven experience as a problem solver.
- Knowledge of large telecommunications systems, preferably Avaya equipment, peripherals, and convergence technology is required.
- Knowledge of Wide Area Network equipment required.
- Knowledge of Local Area Network equipment, preferably Cisco, required. Working knowledge of VLAN, VLAN trunking, VTP, multicast and routing protocols.
- Knowledge of wireless network equipment.
- Familiarity with the rationale, creation and deployment of network regions.
- Project management experience required.
- Experience in design and operation of telecommunications and network software systems.


LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Preferred:
One or more of the following:
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CNA),
Cisco Certified Network Professional ( CCNP),
Cisco Certified Design Associate ( CCDA),
Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP),
Avaya Certified Associate (ACA),
Avaya Certified Specialist (ACS)
Avaya Certified Expert (ACE)
