Quality Assurance Engineer

 

Summary:

The Quality Assurance Engineer is a position of varying ability (basic to advanced). Develops, applies, and revises quality standards for receiving, in-process, and final inspection in accordance with company and contractual requirements. Reviews and revised or writes inspection procedures. Reviews and evaluates in-process rejections, obtains disposition, and implements corrective action as needed. May interface with customers, vendors, and various company departments to resolve quality problems and provide information. Participates in customer audits. Provides technical support to inspection personnel as needed. The Quality Assurance Engineer plays a main role in ensuring that quality requirements are met for their assigned projects.  Accordingly, the Quality Engineer participates in the review of design, manufacturing, testing, and supplier documentation to ensure that quality requirements are fulfilled.  Includes, but not limited to the review of drawings, routers, shop travelers, procedures, procurement documents, inspection documentation, and their changes.  This position requires the individual to plan, develop, implement, monitor quality activities as described in the Quality Assurance Program to preclude products being manufactured in an unacceptable condition, certify the product and/or service complies with the requirements.

 

The Quality Engineer will also be responsible for performing technical reviews on specific orders. Along with these technical reviews, manufacturing and inspection plans will be formally prepared and submitted to the customer for customer approval.  The Quality Engineer will review and sign off on Commercial Grade dedication plans as well.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Include the following.  Other duties may be assigned as required.

§         Establish a working knowledge of Nova’s Quality Assurance Program (QAM, Procedures and Work Instructions) requirements.

§         Perform customer specification/requirements review to identify requirements for product certification.

§         Prepare Project Quality Assurance Plan and as required a Customer Specific Quality Inspection Plan to identify all customer/Nova requirements for product processing certification.

§         QA Engineer interfaces with representatives from a variety of functional organizations, including sales, order entry and review, engineering, planning, purchasing, manufacturing, certifications, and inspection.

§         QA Engineer interfaces with external sources such as the Authorized Nuclear Inspector and his supervisor, suppliers, and customers.

§         Coordinate with other department managers to provide QA support necessary to meet company goals.

§         Provide quality support to assure that the product or service is provided in accordance with customer, industry, and company requirements.

§         Performs supplier audits and maintains qualifications records.

§         Principal Accountabilities:

o       Review contract documents and establish project/product quality requirements by preparing a Quality Plan.

o       Review and approve project generated documents per QA Program requirements.

§         Additional Responsibilities:

o       Provide input in the enhancement or development of the Company quality program.

o       Prepare QC Inspection instructions as needed

o       Generate NCR’s or CAR’s when appropriate.

o       Assure suppliers are appropriately approved (AVL Status)

 

Qualification Requirements:

§         Experience in manufacturing activities related/transferable to Nova’s processes to assure quality requirements are maintained (NDE, Heat Treating, Welding, forming, machining and inspection methods).

§         Working knowledge of Codes and Standards related to the markets / industries Nova certifies its products and services (ASME Code, 10CFR50 Appendix B, N45.2, NQA-1, ISO 9001).

§         Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) with customers, suppliers, and coworkers, analytical in nature, organized, thorough, detail oriented.

§         Capable of interpretation of drawings, procedures to assure conformance.

§         A minimum of 5 years quality related experience in tasks detailed within this job description and 2 years of this experience as a Quality Engineer.

§         Capable of Qualification/Certification as a Lead Auditor (NQA-1 or N45.2.23)

 

Education and/or Experience:

§         BS Degree Metallurgy/Materials Science/Nuclear engineering science or equivalent.

§         AS/AA Degree and/or continuing quality technology studies college/high school to achieve the same.

§         ASQ Quality Engineer Certificate is a plus

§         A minimum of two years of quality engineering experience is required.

§         Knowledge, training and hands-on experience with Continuous Improvement strategies, ASME Code, NQA-1, NDE, materials testing  and methods in a team environment

§         Strong knowledge of ISO and ASME Quality Program requirements desirable.

§         Experience in or familiarity with the commercial nuclear, defense and aerospace industries.

§         Experience with large scale ERP computer systems, computerized data entry and computerized material transactions is highly desired. Skills with PC word processing, spreadsheet, flowcharting, project management and database software is essential. 

§         Knowledge of and experience with fastener specifications required.
