This position is accountable for the accurate and timely reading of electric meters on assigned routes via the mobile data collector device. Incumbent will be responsible for loading and unloading the mobile data collector device, maintaining and operating company equipment in a safe and efficient manner, handling customer inquiries, training other employees as requested, and reporting unusual field and/or meter conditions as procedures dictate. Incumbent is expected to find the most practical and efficient way through each route, avoiding restricted routes, impassable routes, and getting lost. Incumbent must be able to effectively navigate to new locations in different cities on a daily basis in the performance of assigned duties. Incumbent must know the company's safety rules and procedures, as well as road signs, routing/sign systems and adhere to them at all times. Other responsibilities include pulling and inspecting meters for hazards, tampering and resealing, completing miscellaneous reports, actively participating in safety meetings, awareness programs and activities, and other duties as assigned by the Meter Reader Supervisor.

This is a Temporary Meter Reader position, to last no more than six months from the first day of employment.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Accountable for the accurate and timely reading of electric meters on an assigned route. Meter Readers will enter all readings using a hand-held recording device. Must be able to walk approximately 10 miles per day with or without a reasonable accommodation, and must be able to twist, turn and rotate in order to enter and exit a vehicle up to 400 times per day. Must possess the physical capacity to bend, crouch, stretch, and lift. Must possess the ability to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather conditions to include rain, extreme heat, elevated humidity and cold temperatures. Ability to deal tactfully with customers and to deal effectively with unexpected situations to include bees, insects and dogs. Preferred demonstrated work experience would include working outdoors, performing physically demanding job functions and providing overall outstanding of customer service. The Meter Reader aptitude test is required for this position. Candidate must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED). Valid state drivers license required. May be required to drive personal vehicle.
